Abbey Brooks

Abbey Brooks in Cherry

A small credited role connects Brooks with Jeffrey Fine’s independent film and its Michigan production.

A named supporting part

Abbey Brooks is credited as Water Wheel Girl in Cherry. Jeffrey Fine wrote and directed the 2010 film, whose principal cast includes Kyle Gallner as Aaron, Laura Allen as Linda and Britt Robertson as Beth.

The cast also includes Matt Walsh, Esai Morales and Zosia Mamet. Brooks’s credit identifies a smaller part within that ensemble.

Filming in Michigan

The film was shot in Kalamazoo during late 2008. Western Michigan University reported that most filming took place over four weeks, using its campus and nearby Kalamazoo College.

Locations included the Richmond Center for Visual Arts and Fountain Plaza. The campuses provided the setting for the story of a college freshman; the production also housed staff in an unused residence-hall wing.

The 2010 festival premiere

Cherry had its world premiere at South by Southwest in Austin on March 12, 2010. The festival’s archive lists Jeffrey Fine as director and places the film in Emerging Visions.

The chronology separates production in 2008 from the festival release in 2010. Brooks’s acting credit belongs to the film shown there.
